THE CITY OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS USA,
SOUVENIR FUNDRAISING COMMEMORATIVE
UNGRADED BRONZE / COPPER,
SO-CALLED DOLLAR / TOKEN / COIN / MEDAL,
MADE BY S.D. CHILDS & CO., CHICAGO

MEASURES 1-1/2" or 38mm IN DIAMETER,
TOTAL WEIGHT OF 20.0 GRAMS

Shows typical normal wear from use and circulation, including surface scuff marks, scratches, edge wear, tarnish, and a drilled hole at the top.  It has really nice, high relief details, with no major issues at all.

HISTORICAL FOOTNOTE:  This so-called dollar medal was issued between 1897 and 1907 by the Carter H. Harrison Memorial Association to help raise funds for the construction of a monument to the former Mayor after his assassination in 1893.  It was given to those after a $1.00 donation and was made by the historic jewelry firm of S.D. Childs & Co. of Chicago, and is hallmarked by them on the obverse bottom.  The last photo shown was taken from the Chicago Park District web site and explains the story of this monument, which still stands today, and of this medallion.

This is a really great, very collectible piece for those that collect unique, documented So-Called Dollars and tokens like this, or local Chicago history!  Add it to your collection today!
