This absolutely terrific antique letter from pre US Civil War era is a rare find for collectors of militaria and Civil War memorabilia. It is addressed to Nathan P. Ames regarding the new pattern of sword Model 1834 from Cpt M Baden 2nd Reg and is an original piece of history. The letter dates back to July 31, 1834 and provides a glimpse into the life of soldiers and officers during that time. The sword mentioned in the title is of course not included. Sir/

By Genrl Order 36 dated Atty Generals Office Washington 3 May 1834, the office of the Army are ditected to apply to you for the new pattern sword. I therefore respectfully request that you will forward to me at this place to the care of Mrs Getston(Gersten) corner of Baltimore and Charles streets a sword of the pattern designated for the Corps  which I belong. The amount will be submitted by mail paid to any agent you may designate here ___________
