This absolutely terrific antique letter from pre US Civil War era is a rare find for collectors of militaria and Civil War memorabilia. It is addressed to Nathan P. Ames regarding the new pattern of sword Model 1834 from Cpt M Baden 2nd Reg and is an original piece of history. The letter dates back to July 31, 1834 and provides a glimpse into the life of soldiers and officers during that time. The sword mentioned in the title is of course not included. By Genrl Order 36 dated Atty Generals Office Washington 3 May 1834, the office of the Army are ditected to apply to you for the new pattern sword. I therefore respectfully request that you will forward to me at this place to the care of Mrs Getston(Gersten) corner of Baltimore and Charles streets a sword of the pattern designated for the Corps  which I belong. The amount will be submitted by mail paid to any agent you may designate here ___________
