This is a very rare, large amber brown Tilden & Co Apothecary - Druggist Bottle.  It is embossed "Tilden" on the bottom in sharp, clear lettering.  There are no other markings on the vintage Tilden medicine bottle but it is likely a gallon size, dating to the 1800s.  The bottle is molded, side seam stops mid neck with separately applied lip.  The lip is slightly crooked.  The Tilden Company of New Lebanon, NY worked closely with the New Lebanon Shaker community, making these bottles highly collectible.  As this is such a large apothecary jar, I suspect it was pharmacy shop ware.  The Tilden Co is known for making "cure-alls", often quack medicine, such as Elixir Phenobarbital, Nephritica, Respirazone and other products that cured everything from kidney disease to "hyperesthesia", whatever that is.  This Tilden & company bottle likely had a paper label.  My father, an avid bottle digger, discovered this beautiful bottle in the ruins of an old plantation in Virginia more than 40 years ago.  Its in great shape, free from breaks or cracks with the exception of a tiny chip on the lip.  (See photo closeups)  There is sediment deposit, especially on one side where it laid in the dirt for so many years.  Hopefully, someone with the right chemical and brushes can clean it.  It measures about 12" tall and 4.75" wide.
