RARE Leica 40mm f2 Summicron-C lens for CL/CLE (40/2), fits Sony/Canon/Olympus

You are bidding on a lovely example of the Leica40mm f2 Summicron-C lens, originally designed for use on the Leica CL/CLE but useable on other cameras too, including the Leica M8 (without framelines, obviously). It can also be used on a wide range of mirrorless cameras, including those made by Sony, Canon and Olympus, when paired with an appropriate mount adapter.

The Leica 40mm Summicron-C lens is an exceptional optic. Measuring approximately 25mm in length and weighing just 105g, it is as small as they come. Without a lenshood, it's practically invisible in the viewfinder frame, and perfect for discrete, candid shooting. Amazingly, this small size doesn't seem to have had any negative impact on overall image quality and the 40mm f2 is now legendary amongst rangefinder photographers, not only for its “just-so” field of view, but for its sharpness and distortion-free picture-making abilities. 'This turned out to be one of the best lenses I've ever used,' writes The Online Photographer, Mike Johnston, 'fantastically sharp and smooth ... Curiously, it was one of the only lenses I've ever used that consistently drew positive comments about sharpness and clarity from non-photographers looking at my prints."

As you can see from the photographs taken earlier, the lens continues to be in excellent condition, exhibiting only slight signs of use. Cosmetically, there’s a little paint loss on the edges of the focusing and aperture rings as you’d expect, and you’ll notice that the bayonet spot has fallen away. That said, it remains hard to fault with no significant dings, dents or scratches. Optics are mint and free from dirt, dust, scratches or fungus. Mechanically, the focusing and aperture rings continue to be smooth and decisive; aperture blades are snappy and responsive; the mount is clean and bright. The lens comes with its third-party front/rear caps, and its original rubber lens hood,

Take a look at my mother listings if you’re after the Leica CL that it nicely pairs with, the smallest M-mount rangefinder to ever be made, and a firm favourite of Henri Cartier-Bresson in his later years.
