You are bidding on a Carl Zeiss 28mm f2.8 Distagon T* Contax/Yashica mount lens, designed and constructed by optical engineers universally acknowledged as some of the best the world has ever seen. Compact and portable (50mm; 280g), this popular wide-angle offers high centre contrast images even with the aperture fully opened, and so is particularly good when paired up, with an appropriate mount adapter, to digital SLRs with smaller-than-film sensors which only utilize the middle portion of the image, where the lens provides the 35mm equivalent of a standard/short telephoto lens. The 28mm Distagon may not have the fast f2 aperture of Zeiss's latest, significantly larger, heavier and more expenisve 28mm f2 (rrp £1200, now significantly more given its ‘Hollywood’ status), but it does offer Zeiss image quality, and Zeiss build at an affordable price.
As you can see from the photographs taken earlier today, the lens up for auction continues to be in excellent condition, exhibiting only slight signs of normal use. Cosmetically, there are no significant dings, dents or scratches; optically, the lens is mint with no scratches, dirt, dust or fungus; and mechanically, it is without fault, with well dampened, decisive focusing and aperture rings, and a bright, clean mount. The lens comes with front/rear caps.
