Al-Mehbash  is a machine made of wood that is used to grind roasted coffee beans. The ground coffee beans are subsequently boiled in water for several hours with cardamom and served to the guests or the household of the house hot. Al-Mhbash has a long hand that is used to beat coffee and to play.

Ground coffee is usually coarse, and not crushed quite like modern coffee grinders do. The mhbash was also used as a musical instrument for Bedouin chants, whereby the mhabash player knocked inside as if he was grinding coffee using the mahbash stick, but with a specific and consistent tone.

The mehbash is a hollow wooden bowl made from tree trunks, the best of which are those made from palm trees. The mahbash is painted in predominantly black colors, and they are printed with silver or copper prints and decorated with a drawing of various shapes, with white metal trim on its mouth.
