For sale is a superb cup and saucer set made by Althaldensleben in about 1830. Althaldensleben was started by Gottlob Nathusius in about 1814 as an earthenware factory but soon (about 1826) converted to porcelain making. After his death in 1836 the factory was closed. It is rare to find pieces by this maker as they only made porcelain for ten years and more often one finds pipes rather than cups so this here is a special treat. The cup has a nice shape with a handle including what looks like a 4 leaved clover in the center and sits on three claw feet. Nice white "pearl" design along the bottom edge of the cup. Both the cup and saucer have a blue ground color to them (more mottled on the saucer) with some gold trim to it but the best part is the superbly hand painted scene to the front of the cup of the Gartenhaus in Buchwald as shown. Not a scene one ever finds so it's special. Buchwald is called Bukowiec nowadays and is a part of the town of Myslakowice in the lower Silesia in Poland near the borders of the Czech Republic and Germany. The scene is of a very nice quality! The cup is not marked but the saucer has their typical under glaze blue line mark underneath as shown. The cup is 3.125 inches tall plus the handle and 3.5 inches in diameter. The saucer is 1 inch tall and 5.875 inches in diameter. The set is in great condition with a bit of wear to the gilding along the saucer edge and inside of the cup but they display perfectly. The scene is labeled underneath but hard to make out. I think it states - Das Gärtner Haus im Park zu Buchwald. German Germany Untertasse Lupenmalerei Malerei Szene
