1856-PTS FJ Bolivia 4S

ANACS VF30

The Potosi Mint of Spanish colonial fame struck this half dollar-sized silver piece under the Republic of Bolivia. Crude, indeed antiquated technology led to poor quality standards. This piece looks no better than the issues being made in the 1750s!

Hard satiny fields and sharp rims indicate less wear than detail suggests. Actually, the coin is a strong XF that was weakly struck in the centers due to an uneven planchet and open collar strike. Beautiful sea green, gold, and russet patina has crept in around the devices, making for an exceptional, crusty piece!

Struck one year prior to the elimination of foreign currency in U.S. circulation.
