Antique 19thC Nathusius Porcelain Dresden Scenic Cup Porzellan Althaldensleben

This product data sheet is originally written in English.

For sale is a superb cup made by Althaldensleben in about 1830. Althaldensleben was started by Gottlob Nathusius in about 1814 as an earthenware factory but soon (about 1826) converted to porcelain making. After his death in 1836 the factory was closed. It is rare to find pieces by this maker as they only made porcelain for ten years and more often one finds pipes rather than cups so this here is a special treat. The only reason I know this cup was made by them is because I have a cup and saucer set where the cup is unmarked but the saucer has their mark. The cup has a nice shape with a handle including what looks like a 4 leaved clover in the center and sits on three claw feet. Nice white "pearl" design along the bottom edge of the cup. The cup has some gold trim to it but the best part is the superbly hand painted scene to the front of the city of Dresden including the Augustus bridge over the Elbe river, the Frauenkirche and the Hofkirche. This scene is more often found on the top German maker porcelain so it's interesting to find it on a piece by this maker. The scene is of a very nice quality! The cup is not marked except for an impressed number 43. The cup is 3.125 inches tall plus the handle and 3.5 inches in diameter. The piece is in great condition with some wear to the gilding as shown but it displays nicely. The scene is labeled underneath with the name Dresden in black script.
