For sale is a superb vase most likely made by Minton in about 1875 during the aesthetic period in the Japonisme style . There is a very similar piece in The Met museum. A nicely shaped piece with the reticulated top edge and the foot that is part of the vase but meant to look like a separate piece. The main body is superbly hand painted with all these different designs including birds and butterflies with flowers like honeysuckle and even a butterfly all on an off white ground color. The flowers and birds, etc. all have lots of gold detail to it and remind me of the Cloisonne pieces from Japan. There are also lots of little panels with different designs. The one of the fish with a flower on turquoise ground is my favorite but there are others with a butterfly and flowers, a bird with a flower, a butterfly and a flying crane and some with just flowers that are all superbly done with lots of detail. It's a great looking vase that has lots going for it. Every angle gives you something different! The piece is in superb condition with just a bit of wear to the gilding of the top and bottom. It is 9.5 inches tall and has a diameter of 4.75 inches. The piece is not marked but the bottom is unglazed. There might be an impressed mark slightly visible when there is a bright light shining through but I cannot make it out. It would just be a single letter J if you ask me.  England Christopher Dresser
