A beautiful depiction of a gentleman in a blue skirt and white and red striped vest.
The size of the miniature frame is also noteworthy here. I have never seen anything like this before today. Considering that most miniatures at the time were painted on the bone plates, it would probably have been almost impossible to find a suitable picture support plate at the time, as most were naturally smaller. Therefore the frame should have been a real rarity. There are probably only very few miniature frames of this size in existence. In the last picture I made a size comparison to a common size of miniature frame at the time (although many frames were even smaller) to illustrate the dimension of this extraordinary miniature frame. (Note: the smaller frame in the last picture is for comparison purposes only and is not included)
Watercolor and gouache on paper / framed / glazed. Dimensions: oval approx. 11 x 13.5 cm (with frame approx. 18.2 x 21 cm). Time of creation: around 1840. The antique miniature is in age-related condition (cleaning would of course be very nice to make the colors shine again). The old miniature frame is partly slightly bumped and rubbed on the edges, but is in good used condition, the wood is stable, not wormed, not brittle, with old scratches in places. The glass has been replaced over time.
