Trinity Ethernet Interface Bundle
for the SAM Coupé computer:

Trinity Ethernet Interface V1.2
+ Trinity BOOT ROM

Version 1.2 Trinity Ethernet Interface launched in September 2021, a slightly revised version of the earlier models which now offers double the speed of SD card accessing than the older versions.

The Trinity Ethernet Interface is probably the most popular interface for the SAM Coupe! The concept of Trinity it to bring Ethernet to your SAM with the goal of getting the SAM onto the Internet as well as adding mass storage capabilities as an extra feature.

The interface consists of three main sections - hence the name Trinity.

Ethernet

The first and most important part is the ethernet controller, a self-contained chip to deal with the communication side of things. The first demos to use the internet on the SAM Coupe are on the accompanying software disk.

128K EEPROM

The second section is a 128K EEPROM which is used for storing settings for ethernet enabled applications as well as the general ethernet configuration. This is split into 120 x 1K chunks, which can be used for your programs to store data too. (The other 8K is used to store an index data of what is in the memory).

Mass Storage - MMC / SD card slot

The third section is a card slot for MMC and SD flash memory cards for mass storage for your SAM files. Using a version of B-DOS that's modified for the Trinity, storing your files on flash cards is very easy. With the latest version of B-DOS (supplied with the interface) cards up to 64GB are supported.

And all three peripherals are linked to the SAM via a microcontroller which acts like a central hub.

The interface comes with a programming manual outlining how to access the hardware and all the I/O programming gubbins and a disk of software. This includes some test routines for checking the eeprom, mmc/sd flash, and the ethernet controller. There is also the setup routines to format the eeprom, and set MAC address, IP, Gateway, DNS etc and a small routine to 'ping' the SAM to check that the ethernet is set up correctly.

Other items in the bundle

This bundle also contains the extra Trinity BOOT ROM.

When fitted the Trinity BOOT ROM allows the SAM to automatically load in B-DOS on startup and reset to save you having to load in B-DOS from floppy every time you need to use the SD/SDHC mass storage on the Trinity.

(Holding down the space bar on reset will stop the autoboot, and drop into BASIC as normal).

You will have to open your SAM Coupe up to fit the ROM chip - no soldering is required as the SAM's original ROM is in a socket and can be easily swapped over.

System Requirements

Shipping & Pricing FAQ  (Updated March 2022)
Some answers for commonly asked questions. Please do feel free to ask me questions!

Why have you moved international shipping to the eBay Global Shipping Programme?

I've had to make the decision to switch to the eBay Shipping Programme for my own seller protection for shipping outside of the UK. Due to a parcel passing through Customs slowly a refund was issued for
non-delivery, only for it to arrive several days later. The customer failed to repay for the item they received and were refunded for, which is an insult towards myself as a major developer keeping the SAM Coupé alive.
I cannot take such a loss again for someone's dishonesty.

Why is there a long shipping time on the listing?

With the current worldwide electronic component shortage it can take longer to get parts in to make hardware, but I am now trying to keep stock of items ready to ship. The time listed for shipping on my listings should be taken as the worst case scenario as I do always aim to ship as quickly as possible.

Why has the price changed since I last looked at an item?

Again it's down to the component shortage. I'm seeing long lead times and huge price increases on a range of electronic parts, in particular silicon chips - even standard logic chips I've seen prices triple over the last six months. As a result, I do have to keep tabs on the pricing of the retro hardware I produce. Thanks for understanding.

Quazar - Celebrating 30 Years of Developing for the SAM Coupé!

I founded Quazar back back in 1995 when I released my first piece of hardware for the SAM Coupe - the Quazar Surround soundcard. Over the years I have now designed and released a vast range of hardware and software for the SAM, as well as releasing a regular magazine. SAM Revival is a printed magazine with an accompanying cover disk of software and aims to be packed full of all the latest SAM Coupé news, interesting features, articles and interviews, catering for everything SAM related. Currently on issue 26, the first issue launched back in August 2002 and has grown from strength to strength, being read by SAM users in 20 countries.

If you are looking for more SAM games, then take a look at SAM Revival magazine! It has featured a cover disk from issue 9 onwards and has featured both new and old commercial SAM games (with the full permission of the authors, and often an accompanying interview too!), here's the lineup of the games:

TCP/IP Update

Work on the TCP/IP functionality continues and I've just uploaded a video to YouTube to show it in action downloading a game straight to the SAM!

Second TCP/IP test on the SAM Coupe with the Trinity Ethernet Interface
YouTube user: QuazarSamCoupe (Sorry! Can't add a direct YouTube link to the eBay listing)

Several TCP/IP test applications are now included on the software disk with the Trinity Ethernet Interface! It's all paving the way for SAMonline!

B-DOS Update - 25/12/2013

Thanks to the coding efforts of Chris Pile, the Trinity version of B-DOS now supports MMC, SD and SDHC cards up to 64GB in size!
