Narnia was one of the crown jewels of the San Diego underground rave scene and known for massive outdoor all night raves that ended in sunrise hand holding events and advertised with very large, colorful flyers. 1994 was their 3rd year and they had the budget of a summer blockbuster movie to create one of the largest rave flyers of that era.

Narnia 1994 was a massive (several thousand people) outdoor festival at the Rincon Indian Reservation, MTV and Life Magazine were there to cover, and things started to go sideways once Crash Worship started their set.

Headlier Dmitry of Deee-Lite was finishing his set when a long drumming procession of people dressed in animal costumes carrying an alter holding a naked girl painted gold sitting in piles of fruit started traveling down from the outskirts of the party towards the front DJ area, bringing the attention of the crowd with them. When they got to the front, the gold naked girl handed Dimitry an apple, the speakers turned off, and then Crash Worship proceeded to destroy the scene.

CW led the tranced out ravers down by the river in an interactive acoustical tribal set and that involved fire, smoke, mud, flying fruit, a bloody pigs head, and hypnotized ravers having to be restrained from throwing themselves into the river (which would have resulted in serious boldly harm or even death) 

Imagine being at the outdoor rave at the peak moment with the Groove Is In The Heart DJ spinning and it’s all PLUR and beats and then all of a sudden you’re Down By The River with a girl in a bloody dress and bloody pigs head chanting spells and everyone around you has gone full Charles Manson and you’re in the middle of a Stephen King novel. This has to be the most abrupt vibe change in the history of Rave. Lots of people still look fondly back on Narnia as being a peace and love circle of life hand holding type of event but for some moments in 94 it almost became Altamont.

The Indian’s started freaking out about the chaos that CW was unleashing upon the Rincon Indian Reservation and accused the Ravers of being Satan Worshipers (In all honesty, it does sound like something out of a Rothschild party so I could see their point) and bringing Evil Upon Their Land (which is ironic considering an Easter Egg hidden on the flyer is a: no evil, please) and of The Indians threatened to shut the event down right then and there. Guns were drawn, tens of thousands of dollars in cash changed hands, and the agreement was made that the rave would continue to the end. When the rave ended and the crew started to break down the next morning they did so with guns drawn on them and insults being thrown around in a tense Mexican standoff that people still talk about to this day. Narnia 1994 would make a great Written and Directed by Quentin Tarantino type of movie.
