A SUPERB COPY

A series of great Violin, Piano and Orchestra records on rare labels, from 1902 Monarch to 1940 War Germany recordings.

Gyorgy Sandor (September 21, 1912 to December 9, 2005) was a Hungarian born pianist and teacher.

Born in Budapest, Sandor was a student of composers Bela Bartok and Zoltan Kodaly at the Liszt Academy. He toured Europe as a concert pianist during the 1930s and settled in the United States following his American debut at Carnegie Hall in 1939, gaining citizenship in 1943. A friend of Bartok until the composer's death in 1945, he premiered mumerous Bartok works (including the posthumous Third Piano Concerto in 1946), became a foremost scholar of his music, and won the Grand Prix du Disque in 1965 for his recordings of Bartok's piano music. He also recorded the complete piano repertoires of Kodaly, Prokofiev, and others.

From 1956-61, Sandor taught at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, was director of graduate piano studies from 1961-81 at the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor, and joined the faculty of The Juilliard School in 1982, where he taught for the remainder of his life. He published the book On Piano Playing: Motion, Sound, and Expression in 1981, expounding his views on technique and expression. He taught master-classes at music institutuins around the world and acted as juror for many international piano competitions. He maintained an active concert career into his eighties, both solo and with major world orchestras, and continued to practice a repertoire of about 1000 piano works into his nineties, making many recordings during the last years of his life. He gave his last concert in Turkey in April, 2005, and died later that year in New York City at the age of 93.

A Quick NOTE ON GRADING AND SHIPPING:

As you can see from my feedback, I try hard to earn your POSITIVE FEEDBACK and FIVE STAR RATINGS.

If for any reason your transaction was NOT SATISFACTORY, pls contact me and I will work something out with you. YOU WILL NEVER HAVE A REASON TO GIVE ME A NEGATIVE RATING or a LOW STAR RATING.

    Quick note on grading:

The Grade (Excellent to Poor, I don't give Mint) refers to the WEAR of the record. Any other defects are stated separately

When I listen to a record, I may also give it an aural grade (again E to P), and make a SUBJECTIVE judgment of the pressing quality for hiss and surface noise.
"EXCEPTIONALLY QUIET" is close to noiseless, like a vinyl pressing.
"VERY QUIET" is an above average quiet record for a given pressing.
"Quiet" is a record that is a great example with some noise.

These judgments are SUBJECTIVE and will depend one the styli, phonograph etc. you use on your own equipment.
