For sale is a very rare and nice snuff / patch box / tabatiere made by Frankenthal in the 18th century . The rectangular shape typically German form from the mid 18th century on. Each panel is decorated with a relief scroll design to the paste as well as hand painted with a larger floral arrangement and lots of scattered single flowers. The bottom inside is fully gilded but the best part is that amazing scene to the inside lid! It is of a shepherd and shepherdess couple holding their shepherd's staffs with two sheep to the left and an odd character lurking in the background on the right side. The quality of the scene is superb! The box is unmarked but the scene, the colors and style of flowers and it definitely being German leads me to believe it was made by Frankenthal. I could not find an exact match but did find very similar pieces by them. The mounts are made of Silver. The piece is in great condition with the wear of the gilding inside the bottom, oxidation to the silver mounts, the lid is a bit loose in its mounting and two of the lid corners have a little nibble to them. Not obvious at all when on display and it displays perfectly! The box is 1.5 inches tall, 3.375 inches wide and 2.75 inches deep. German Germany Szene Szenendose Deckeldose patch trinket Blumen
