Presented is a superb quality antique sterling silver wine bottle holder or coaster. This piece was made by Meriden/International and dates to the first quarter of the 1900s. The coaster has tall sides done in a square lattice openwork design, with bold beaded decoration around the top rim. One side has a shield shaped cartouche, with an engraved crest of a wolf or dog with a collar around its neck.

This piece is stamped on the side of the base with the maker's mark for Meriden (div. of International) as well as sterling and a product number SX686.

This piece is in excellent condition. The wood in the center is in great shape, and the green felt on the underside is a little faded but in good shape, despite being original. The silver has no splits, no dents, no breaks, no monogram removals, and no repairs.

This piece stands about 4 1/4 inches tall and measures about 4 3/4 inches in diameter at the base. The interior diameter of the top is about 3 1/8 inches.

This piece weighs 279 grams or 9.8 regular ounces. Due to the wood in the bottom, not all of this weight is sterling silver.
