The USPS honors several stars from the world of DC comics. Their fantastic adventures provide

an escape from the everyday, while simultaneously encouraging readers to believe that individuals can make a difference. Ten of the stamps on the bottom of the pane show covers of classic comic books devoted to the exploits of DC Super Heroes. The remaining ten stamps at the top of the pane show portraits of individual characters. On the back of each stamp, is an informative paragraph with details about the comic dates, artists and each super hero. Sub-Mariner was the earliest to appear.  The half-merman and half-human creature came on

the scene in 1939 in Motion Picture Funnies Weekly.Next to arrive, Captain America began challenging the threat of Nazi Germany in 1941.  Captain America gained his powers after exposure to radiation, like the Thing, Spider-Man, and Hulk.  Those figures arrived in the 1960s, along with Iron Man and the Silver Surfer.  Wolverine and Spider-Woman followed in the seventies, and Elektra appeared in 1981
