Antique 18thC Mennecy Soft Paste Porcelain & Sterling Snuff Box French France #2

For sale is an interesting box! The lid was taken from a soft paste Mennecy snuff box that probably had the bottom damaged beyond repair. A really great idea! The porcelain top is hand painted with a superb scene of a guy operating an early crane while standing on the shore of a river near some houses with more buildings in the background. A stunning scene. The underside of the lid has a hatch mark relief design to it typical for Mennecy and is hand painted with a floral arrangement. That side used to be more likely the top and the scene would have been on the inside. The rest of the box is Sterling silver and not too flimsy either. Simple lines to complement the porcelain perfectly. The two go perfectly together! The porcelain is not marked which is normal but there is no doubt it was made by Mennecy in the 18th century . The silver is not marked either. There is an odd spot to the underside of the bottom but it's not deep enough to be the result of a mark being removed so it's probably just wear. I do have another box that is similar which is marked but the style of the underside lid is different so I doubt these are by the same maker. Either way a really near piece! The piece is in great condition with some normal oxidation that just needs a quick polish if one wanted that. The porcelain has a few minor chips to the edge which would have been hidden by the mounts had it been put in the right position. It displays perfectly as is though! It would make a superb pill or patch box! The piece is 1.125 inches tall, 2.75 inches wide and 1.75 inches deep. A nice size! 18thC tabatiere snuff box pill patch
