This is a vintage framed color print of the painting titled “The Horse Fair” that was done by the French artist, Rosa Bonheur circa 1852.
It is framed in what appears to be a gold tone paper covered hard cardboard frame. The overall size is 10 ½” x 6”. The exposed picture measures approximately 5” x 8 ½”. The glass covering it has a couple light scratches and there are also some tiny glass imperfections which says to me it might date from the early 20th century but that is just a guess on my part.
It appears that it used to have a string hanger on the back side that was secured with heavy paper stickers…one of which is still there but the other is missing.
Using a loupe, you can see a fine, fairly even dot pattern so between that and the way it was framed, it was probably an inexpensive produced print of a well known painting to be offered for the average consumer.
The paper covered frame is a bit on the shabby side but one might want to leave it as is or fix it up which would be very doable, or reframe the whole thing using a large mat which would set the print off nicely.
Please note that some of the photos show some reflection of light off the glass covering the print.
A nice decorative piece, as it is, to fit a small wall space that needs just a little pop of art…
