For sale is a fun piece - a figural pastille or incense burner made by Niderviller around 1800. The figure is of a lady - presumably the wife of the matching gentleman figurine I also own. The figure is dressed nicely, has a basket filled with greens next to her and is standing on the typical rock work base with the gold trim around the edge. Quite typical for this maker. The incense part can be seen from the back where there is an opening in her basket with a little pin on the bottom to stick the pastille. There is a hole inside to the right that goes up into the figurine and out of her mouth. These types of burners were used around this time since house and places often smelled quite badly and the incense was used to cover it up a bit. It is rare to find a figural one and I have never seen one by this maker. Really quite nice! The piece is in great condition with one finger on her right hand missing and a crack to the basket - mostly on the inside but a bit can be seen along the edge presumable a result from use. The piece displays perfectly and is just a fun to have around. As is the case with most of their figurines the piece is unmarked except for a red number 4 inside the basket as shown. The figurine is 5.75 inches tall and the base has a diameter of 3.5 inches. Figur French France 19thC 18thC 18th 19th century statuette Duftfigur potpourri
