4 Antique Niderviller Porcelain Set of Four Seasons Figurine s Figure Porcelaine

This product data sheet is originally written in English.

For sale is a rare set of four figurines depicting the four seasons made by Niderviller around 1800. Each figure depicts a scene typical of that season and is superbly modeled and painted typical of Niderville . Winter is covering himself with a coat/blanket with a putto next to him doing the same and a fire in front of them. This figure is in superb condition with a small thin sliver of the back top edge of the base and whatever the putti is holding in his right hand is broken off at the bottom. A tiny paint flake on the edge of the coat right above his hair. The fall figurine is of bacchus holding a large chalice while wearing a goat skin with a putto next to him passing a bunch of grapes to him. The one horn of the goat's head is missing, the chalice's front edge is a little uneven though I think this is from when the piece was made and the right arm of the putto was broken off and reattached. The spring figurine is of a lady holding a floral wreath with a putto next to her kneeling on a flower basket that has fallen over and flowers are spilling out of it. The piece has a small chip to the floral wreath and the putto broke off the top of the basket with a break in his left should. There is discolored over painting to his back and roughness so I think he used to be a cherub with wings. The over painting could easily be removed which would make it look much better. Displays fine as is since most of the issues are on the backside. And lastly the summer figurine which is in the worst shape though most of it seems to be because the restorer went over board and over painted all the extremities to blend in with the restored spots. This pieces needs to immersed in a solvent to take it all off. The damage I can truly figure out is the neck of the putti has a break in it, the lady''s left shoulder and wrist have breaks in them with the sickle in her hand replaced with a metal one. The only other damage that might be there is a break in her neck but I do not see any evidence of that though all that paint could hide it. None of the pieces are marked except for this piece which has an incised No. 13 or something along those lines to the underside. The damage that there is is easily made up by the fact that all four figures are present which is really neat. The figures are about 8.75 inches tall with the base having a diameter of about 4 inches. I have lots more pictures so just ask if you'd like to see them!
