For sale is another really nice vase made in England in the
early to mid 19th century. It has a sticker on it identifying it as
being made by Rockingham but there is also a very similarly shaped vase
with the same cherub and beehive decoration made by Mason's so there are
some possibilities. Either way it is definitely English and really nice.
One side has the scene of the cherub attacking the beehive with an
arrow - they must have made him mad for sure while the other side has a
really nice seashells design to it. The scenes are partially printed and
then hand painted over that. There are lots of superb applied flowers
around the scenes as shown. Those are my favorite part of this piece.
Some relief designs as well highlighted with gilding and a nice handle
to either side with a hidden head of a woman on the inside. Some
turquoise and gold trim finish off this superb piece. It is from a set
of three that make up a garniture if you wish to have it. Two are
smaller including this one here and one is a bit larger. All can be
found on the site. The vase is in great condition with a touch of wear
to the gilding and some chips to the applied flowers as one could
expect. Nothing terrible and the piece displays superbly! The vase is
about 7.25 inches tall, 4.875 inches wide including the handles and
3.125 inches deep. Not marked but that is pretty normal for the period
and country! Sea shells Muscheln
