Fine Gorham Sterling Silver Florentine Large Serving Spoon

Presented is an excellent old Gorham sterling silver large serving spoon. This
spoon was made in the ornate Florentine pattern which was patented in 1901,
featuring sumptuous classically inspired designs through much of the surface of
the handle. The terminal has a Green Man type face trailing into fruit and
foliage, with stylized fish/dolphins flanking a scallop shell beneath, trailing
into more foliage and urns down the stem. The reverse has bellflowers and a
basket of fruit at the tip, with more foliate scrollwork above the bowl. On the
front of the terminal of the handle is a monogram of GFB in stylized hand
engraved lettering. This is a large and generously sized spoon, suitable for
serving casseroles, potatoes, or whatever else you see fit.

This piece is in excellent condition. The details of the pattern are
remarkably crisp. There are no splits, no dents, no breaks, no monogram
removals, and no repairs.

The spoon is stamped with the Gorham maker's mark as well as sterling and the
patent date of 1901. Notably the Gorham mark is a distinct and older style,
prominent but almost incorporated into the design, above the the tines on the
back.

The spoon measures about 9 inches long.

This piece weighs 117 grams or 4.1 regular ounces.
