Vintage Mahogany Lion of Lucerne Swiss Guards Carved Wood Bookends Jenning Brothers.

The original statue, the dying Lion of Lucerne (Switzerland), was sculpted out of living rock in the side of a cliff and commemorates the Swiss guardsmen who died in 1792 during the French Revolution.  It was hewn in 1820 / 1821.

This beautiful set of bookends is a wonderful replica of the statue. They are carved out of solid mahogany wood, and both have remnants of the foil sticker on the bottom from E. Kopriwa Co. Chicago, Ill. They are each 7.5" x 4.75" x 3.25" and together weigh almost 5 pounds. Preowned condition with tiny scratches, etc. Please see pictures for more detail.
