This is a rare, antique hexagonal Santalets medicine bottle or vial by Sharp & Dohme.  Sharpe & Dohme was known for their Victorian Era poison and quack remedy bottles.  The Apothecary began business in Baltimore, MD in December of 1885 and offered a variety of "medicines" including Santalets, promoted as being a cure for Gonorrhea or venereal disease.  The product was offered for a few years before 1919, when the FDA seized bottles and condemned the medicine as being 'Misbranded".  The vintage quack remedy bottle is embossed on two of the 6 sides with "Santalets" and "Sharp  Dohme" on another.  A number is embossed on the bottom, either "48" or "4B".  My father, an avid bottle digger, discovered the bottle in the ruins of an old homestead in Virginia more than 40 years ago.  It is in decent shape for a dug bottle.  There is a scar on one side (crack does not go thru the bottle) and a chip near the base.  Clarity is effected by years of exposure.  The lip is poorly formed (leading me to believe the bottle more likely dates to the early part of the date range).  Embossing is clearly formed.  The vintage medicine vial measures about 4.25" x 1.25".
