British War Medal & Serbian Samaritan Cross Medal Pair - Sister Bessie Wotherspoon, Territorial Force Nursing Service


British War Medal named SISTER B. WOTHERSPOON. Condition - GVF+


Bessie Wotherspoon was born in Sterinson, Ayrshire, Scotland in 1885, she trained as a Nurse 1906 to 1909 at the Birmingham Union Infirmary, Selly Oak and became a State Registered Nurse (England and Wales) No 13235 on 16th March 1923.

The 1911 census records she is a 26 year old fully trained hospital Nurse residing at the Nurses Home Coatsworth Road, Gateshead.

In the First World War she served first as a Staff Nurse in the Territorial Force Nursing Service (TFNS) enlisting on 14th December 1916 and served at No 5 Northern General Hospital before serving in Salonika from 9th January 1917, she was promoted to Sister.

Awarded the Serbian Samaritan Cross by HM The King of Serbia London

Last traced on the Register of Nurses in 1943 when residing at 503 Anlaby Road, Hull
