In the 2020–21 season, Rapid Wien demonstrated their competitive prowess, securing a 2nd place finish in both the Bundesliga regular season and championship round. Led by head coach Dietmar Kühbauer, the team showcased their attacking prowess with Ercan Kara leading the scoring charts with 20 goals across all competitions, despite bowing out in the third qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League and reaching the group stage of the UEFA Europa League.
