This is for an original 1964 Merry Marvel Marching Society Kit with its original envelope which could be purchased from Marvel comics for one dollar back in the day. For months, Stan had announced in his soapbox in most of the Marvel titles that he was forming a club with the initials MMMS and anyone who could guess what the letters stood for would win a prize. With the comics being bombarded with suggestions with most being Make Mine Marvel Stan and Marvels Money Making Scheme, it was finally announced that the new club would be the Merry Marvel Marching Society. Marvel readers would send away for their kits in droves and Marvel would even release a new kit every year (only 75 cents for returning members) with each having subtle differences such as certain items being added to them. This kit contains the original mailing envelope, the original welcome letter from the bullpen gang, the original 3” “I Belong to the Merry Marvel Marching Society” pin and its original bag, the original flexidisc in its original sleeve featuring Stan introducing the bullpen gang to the fans in an unrehearsed adlibbed segment which included Jack Kirby and many of the Marvel crew. Also included is about 10 3 x 4 papers with the Thing on them along with “The M.M.M.S. Wants You”. I am not really sure if these are stickers where the backs fell off, if they are original to the kit or just replacements to go along with everything else. Missing is the membership card but the condition of everything else more than makes up for it. Another kit Marvel released in 1967 was almost the same except the pin had changed to “Make Mine Marvel” and the record had become “Scream Along with Marvel” with a picture of the back of the Hulk conducting an invisible orchestra with a baton in his hand. By the time 1971 rolled around, the club had disbanded and many of the kits disappeared as opposed to the comics everyone saved. This one is a must have for any Marvel collector, especially with the ever expanding Marvel Universe.
