Julian Rose, part of the US Yiddish Vaudeville Scene had his shtick with the dumb and uncouth Levinsky in embarrassing situations.
Evening Post, Volume CVII, Issue 123, 26 May 1924, Page 3
Julian Rose, as an entertainer, is fascinating to watch. He knows his audience, knows what it wants; knows, too, the value of the pause. Being a Jew, he feels at liberty to make fun at the expense of his own people, but he said nothing with intent to shock the finest Jewish sensibility. While he confined himself to "Levinsky” and the singing of a couple of songs in the same vein, he left the impression of being in private a brilliant raconteur of that subtle form of Jewish humour that is not required for vaudeville purposes.

“Levinsky at the Tivoli”
The bill presented to Tivoli patrons (a full house) on Saturday was wholly to their liking. It was studded with "star" turns, but ,the bright.particular orb of the evening was Julian Rose, the Jewish comedian, the original "Levinsky," who went to a wedding. How many times he has recounted his experiences at that wedding through, the medium of the gramophone is beyond computation, but he appeared in person at the Tivoli on Saturday night, and was so warmly welcomed that he had to make a pleasant little speech-of acknowledgment before he left the stage. The house shrieked with laughter; For all that "Levinsky at the Wedding” has been heard all over the world at such Chaplinesque incidents as the cup of tea poured down "Mrs. Rosenblatt's" back, and the whole of the broad comedy, touched in the recital. Julian Rose, as an entertainer, is fascinating to watch. He knows his audience, knows what it wants; knows, too, the value of the pause. His jokes may be simple and obvious, but he allows time for them to sink in. He is a .champion laughter-raiser: Being a Jew, he feels at liberty to make fun at the expense of his own people, but he said nothing with intent to shock the finest Jewish sensibility. While he confined himself .to "Levinsky” and the .singing of a couple of songs in the same vein, he left the impression of being in private a brilliant raconteur of that subtle form of Jewish humour that is not required for vaudeville purposes. Julian Rose's debut was an enormous success.

A Quick NOTE ON GRADING AND SHIPPING:
As you can see from my feedback, I try hard to earn your POSITIVE FEEDBACK and FIVE STAR RATINGS.
If for any reason your transaction was NOT SATISFACTORY, pls contact me and I will work something out with you. YOU WILL NEVER HAVE A REASON TO GIVE ME A NEGATIVE RATING or a LOW STAR RATING.
Quick note on grading:
The Grade (Excellent to Poor, I don't give Mint) refers to the WEAR of the record. Any other defects are stated separately
When I listen to a record, I may also give it an aural grade (again E to P), and make a SUBJECTIVE judgment of the pressing quality for hiss and surface noise.
"EXCEPTIONALLY QUIET" is close to noiseless, like a vinyl pressing.
"VERY QUIET" is an above average quiet record for a given pressing.
"Quiet" is a record that is a great example with some noise.
These judgments are SUBJECTIVE and will depend one the styli, phonograph etc. you use on your own equipment.
