OLSEN BRIAR ROOT
EXTRA 7.50 Early Maker
Nice Birdseye & X-Grain
Medium Apple, Nice Pipe!
OLSEN It
looks it’s probably from the 1920’s to 1930’s latest. The branding is in a
diamond outline, with ROOT BRIAR below. It has no “country of manufacture”
stamping, which became common starting in the 1920’s and from thereon, so it
makes me think this is early. I can’t find info on OLSEN to pin this one down,
it’ll probably go on Pipedia soon as a mystery brand needing more information.
It does have EXTRA stamped on the bottom, might be a higher grade for the nice
grain. Also has 7.50 which is an unusual marking on a pipe. The pipe is a
mid-size apple, and the bottom has a flat surface, round shank, taper stem made
of vulcanite. The bowl shows off some defined birdseye and flame cross-grain.
Interior is nicely seasoned, with the draw hole bottom center. The top rim has
slight tap wear. The stem is nice quality vulcanite, in great shape with no
real wear. The pipe weighs in at 1.05 ounce. The pipe's been freshly polished
and is ready to smoke, draws easy.
