For sale is a very hard to find porcelain plate made by Meissen in the 19th century probably early in the century or even late 18th century . The mark is a bit hard to figure out but it's definitely not later than mid 19th century. The plate is hand painted with the superb red Hofdrachen ( court dragon ) design that was until 1918 exclusively made for the Saxon Royal Court, so this plate here is from that royal service. In the Chinese culture the red dragon symbolizes prosperity, power and good feng-shui . One rarely sees a dish from this service for sale especially in good condition. This plate is in great condition with some use wear - mainly stacking wear to the clear glaze around the edge of the well not affecting the decoration! It displays superbly. The plate is 1.5 inches tall and 9.375 inches in diameter. Marked underneath with the under glaze blue crossed swords mark as well as the usual impressed numbers and in black Hof Silberkammer which stand for Royal Silver Chamber but it means Imperial Silver Collection which was just a designation to where these plates where being stored for use at one of the Saxon Royal Court households.
