Vintage 1950's Halsam Hi Lo American Safety Blocks. These wooden blocks are embossed with letters and corresponding pictures, interlocking with rounded edges and corners.

All made of solid wood and in beautiful vintage condition.

Halsam Products Co. was founded in 1917 by brothers-in-law Harold Elliot and Sam Goss, Jr. ("Hal+Sam”). Halsam was an innovator and a founding member of the industry group, Toy Manufacturers of America. They were one of the first toy companies to license Disney characters in the late 1920's. Halsam marketed their ABC sets of "safety blocks" with mechanically-rounded corners. They also developed "Hi-Lo blocks" with interlocking grooved sides. Halsam was one of the first to use TV advertisements. They also worked closely with large department stores and later with pre-Toys-R-Us, deep-discount outlets such as Bargain Town USA. This set was sold at Stix, Baer & Fuller, a department store chain in St. Louis, Missouri.

These blocks are larger than standard building blocks and measure approximately 1.625" x 1.625" x 1.625".

Please see all photos. This listing includes the original box as shown and 48 building blocks. This original box shows wear and has been taped many times over the years, but the blocks are solid and vibrant.
