Ferdinand and Exceller
by Heather Rohde

Framed Reproduction of Original Art
Signed/Numbered Limited Edition
12" x 15" (total size)

Ferdinand and Exceller were exceptional Thoroughbred racehorses who both met untimely and unfortunate ends. Ferdinand (the chestnut) won the 1986 Kentucky Derby and the 1987 Breeder's Cup Classic, and was also the 1987 Horse of the Year. He won more than $3.7 million. Exceller (the bay) competed at the highest levels in England, France, and the United States, earning more than $1.6 million. He is best remembered for winning the 1978 Jockey Club Gold Cup, defeating TWO Triple Crown winners in the process: Seattle Slew and Affirmed! Both horses died in slaughterhouses.

I created this portrait of Ferdinand and Exceller to honor the memory of two great horses as well as raise awareness of the need for retired racehorse adoption and rescue. The artwork has a short poem on the bottom entitled "A Horse's Prayer." If you like how the art looks here, you will love how it looks in person! It is matted in antique white and framed in an elegant two-tone brown and black wood designer frame. I will hand sign and number this piece on the front and will provide you with a Certificate of Authenticity. Measurements indicate outside dimensions of frame. The copyright watermark that you see in my photo does not appear on the actual art. ("Ferdinand and Exceller" is also available in larger sizes as well as framed.
