For sale is a rare and amazing figurine of a lady Blackamoor
made by Meissen in about 1745. Modeled by Peter Reinicke this is a new
favorite of mine. The piece is superbly modeled and hand painted in those
really nice early colors. It is about as early a figurine that one can
find made by them that is still affordable. The lady is wearing a
Turkish dress with a white and red striped headdress. She is holding an
oval reticulated basket filled with lemons at her waist, her right hand
removing some of the headdress from her face and standing on a nice
base with two flowers and their leaves on it. This figurine has lots
going for it. It was painted when it was made (very important!) and not
later. It has superb colors and a nice design with those awesome flowers
to her dress. She displays very nicely but has three fingers chipped on
her top hand, two on the hand on the basket, a chip to the basket edge
and some flaking to the yellow paint on the lemons and a spot on one of
her shoes. None of this is obvious and she looks great! And to make it
even better I also have her male friend to make a perfect couple :) The
figurine is 5.5 inches tall, 2.25 inches wide and 1.875 inches deep.
There are remnants of the blue crossed swords mark to the back base but
one cannot mistake these early pieces. They are amazing to say the
least! 18th century German Germany Mohr
