Reproduction of a Very Famous & Important Map

Here is a great Vintage Reproduction Map of the cartographer John Speed's famous 1676 map of Virginia, Maryland, and Delaware for your buying consideration. This vintage version is a reproduction of that map. Not sure whom issued by. Framed by the well known Trowbridge Art Gallery. Would make a great gift or keep for yourself!
This is definitely not an original 1676 map, sorry, but this is one of the finest re-printings of the original that you will find out there.
The map is entitled, "A Map of Maryland and Virginia". This John Speed Map, done originally in 1676, was based upon the surveying work of the area done by Augustine Herman that was originally issued six years before.
The map is engraved (see pressing around outside boundaries on a paper using an older process as the paper has roughness and inconsistencies to it like the older days. Nice looking ragged edge on the map as well. Cannot tell if laid down on the antique white backer or not. There is a red wax seal in the lower right corner with the initials TG impressed into it probably for Trowbridge Gallery. This was a limited edition offering and is noted as number 75 of 295. Notes F. Lamp Sculp in the lower left corner of the map.
Go to the Library of Congress site to see how accurately this reproduction map was done of the original. Did a search online and did not see any of these maps still available thru Trowbridger or anywhere else at the time of listing.
This is not some Fineartamerica's much less well done rendering of this map. If you want that one, it sells for $20 online.
A beautiful and uncommon 20th to 21st century reproduction map of the Virginia, Maryland and Delaware colonies, the Chesapeake Bay, Delawar(e) Bay, and the North Sea (Atlantic Ocean) of what was to become the United States in 1776.
This fine vintage reproduction map is being offered to you at a price below what you would see in a fine gallery or auction house. We can do that by being a dealer in artwork for over 40 years, better controlling our acquisition costs, keeping commission costs low (if applicable). Finally, we don't have the overhead that fine galleries or auction houses have.
The map has not been examined out of the frame. No tears or repairs that we can ascertain. A couple of watermarks that emanate from the bottom of the map up about 2 inches up into the piece. We do not see any other watermarks. The rag paper used gives the map an older look than it is. Some minor spotting from the use of rag paper and some from age. Definitely done on an older look paper, not your smooth bleached glossy paper.
No certificate of authenticity comes with this piece. You or your agent are certainly welcome to stop by to see the map in person as well.
The map comes in a vintage wood frame that is brown and gold in coloring. The glass is intact over the piece, no cracks or blistering. The backing paper is on the frame. The hanging cord is in place as well. The piece was framed at Trowbridge Art Gallery in Baltimore, MD per the stamp on the back of the piece.
The Framed Vintage Map in frame is 28.5" tall, by 32-9/16" across, by 7/8" wide. The map showing within the frame is 21.5" tall by 25-3/8" across. Let us know if you have any questions or need additional pictures. Don’t be shy to make an offer, we are always open to reasonable suggestions.

- When a best offer price is accepted, the sooner payment is made, the sooner your item will be shipped.

Shipping Policy
- Shipping is available to:

- PayPal confirmed addresses only.
- No APO/FPO delivery.
- Items will be shipped via USPS or UPS Ground, based on the buyer's preference.
- Shipped on the same or next business day following receipt of full payment.
- UPS/USPS tracking number will be provided.
- Shipping includes the cost of insurance, where applicable.
- Special shipping requests can be communicated and agreed upon at the time of sale.
- A separate handling charge may apply to certain items that require additional packaging in order to ensure safe shipping. Please refer to the individual listings to see if a handling charge applies.
If an item is shipped to a country outside of the United States, the buyer is responsible for any brokerage, tariffs, taxes, customs, or other charges imposed by that country. The seller reserves the right to choose the international shipping carrier based on shipping method selected at the time of payment. The seller will not understate the value of any item on customs forms.
If you purchase or win more than one auction in which the items can safely be shipped together, we will send you a combined invoice.
We take great pride in is our wrapping to ensure that your order is safely shipped to you. You might find our shipping costs higher than other sellers, but it is due to the extra time, packing care, and materials we utilize. Of over 900 packages shipped last year, we had only two items with issues, a 99.8% damage free delivery rate. Keep in mind, we are not shipping soft goods, like shirts or pants. We are shipping vintage/antique items that are fragile and require special care.
We also obtain insurance on any item that was bought for $50 or more, and require signature on delivery for items that are valued at over $200. Plus we have to pay the 11.75% of the final value and shipping fees that eBay and PayPal charges.
Forfeiture - Items not picked up or arrangements not made by Buyer to have the item shipped to them within 60 days after payment, or during the layaway payment process, will be forfeited by Buyer to Seller. Seller then has the right to resell the item again, with no refund of purchase price or sales tax to previous Buyer.
Returns Policy
- Returns are accepted by seller within 30 days of receipt of item where an item is not as described. The Buyer will be assessed a 15% restocking fee should they decide to return this item for whatever the reason.
- Please note that a restocking fee is charged to to cover costs related to the loss of listing time and other potential sales, plus the amount of care and time that goes into preparing our unique and fragile items for shipping.
- In accordance with eBay's Buyer Protection Program, the purchase price plus original shipping cost will be refunded to the buyer once the item has been received by the seller, minus the 15% restocking fee noted.
- Buyer would pay for the return shipping cost and any applicable insurance cost (item is the buyer's financial responsibility until the item is safely returned to the seller by shipper).
