Presented is a great and very heavy Chinese export silver fork from the mid-1800s, 1835-1860s.
This piece displays elegant bamboo stalks and leaves along both sides of the
handle. The front has a small cartouche with the monogram TTA in a Gothic
script.
We found information on this piece from the book “Chinese Export Silver 1785
to 1885” by H.A. Crosby Forbes, John Devereux Kernan and Ruth S. Wilkins. The fork that we are selling has the exact monogram as the one illustrated in the book. Both piece are probably from the same original set.
The reverse is marked with the maker's mark, KHC, for Khecheong. The fork has been tested and is approximately 900 purity silver.
This piece is in excellent overall condition. The pattern decorations on both
sides are crisp. There are no splits, no knife marks, no breaks, and no
repairs.
Length: 8 1/4 inches
Weight: 109 grams or 3.8 ounces. One of the heaviest fork I have ever seen.
