Please email with any questions. Group of three vintage signed hand painted tiles dating to 1944. The artist was Jay Gallagher who used 4 1/4" tiles produced by CTCo as the canvas for his hand painted artwork of a young man with a shoe shine kit over his shoulder, woman carrying shopping baskets and a woman ironing clothes. Each tile signed "JAY" on the front, full name and date on the backs, along with some browned tissue paper. These came from the Macon, Georgia estate of a sculptor who was the chair of the Art Department at Mercer College. Jay Gallagher may have been a student or friend- I had no luck finding Gallagher listed anywhere. The tiles have some crazing to the glaze but no chips, cracks or repairs.
