For sale is a superb tea / coffee pot from the Arkadia series made by KPM in the mid 20th century right after WWII. It is from the Arkadia service which is known for its sleek design and off course unglazed medallions. Here we have the pot that can be used for tea or coffee which is fully glazed except for that superb medallion on the side of a three nude ladies and a gentleman wearing a Phrygian cap which was worn in antiquity by the inhabitants of Phrygia, a region of central Anatolia. Originally a cap worn by priest, it came to signify freedom and the pursuit of liberty in the Roman west and is sometimes called a liberty cap. A whippet or greyhound dog underneath the figures as well. Fits the period this was made in very well! A great looking piece plus it's from one of the few services that are easy to use since there is no gilding or painting to wear off. We use ours often and even put them in the dishwasher and they've lasted ages already. No gilding or painting to wear off. The pot has the typical shape for the Arkadia series with a flat top with a round lid. The piece is in perfect condition! It is marked underneath with the under glaze blue scepter with the S under it for the Selb location as well as Made in Germany US Zone in green under that. This was only used for a very short time right after WWII. The pot is 5.375 inches tall, 8.875 inches from handle to spout tip and 5.125 inches in diameter. 20thC Kaffeekanne Teekanne teapot
