Subject: female portrait, signed.

Support and technique: watercolor on cardboard. Made with the "frost technique" to obtain the crystallization of some areas of the pictorial surface, this technique consisted of placing the still fresh painting in the actual cold and then working on it subsequently. This effect was created by the painter Pancaldi towards the early 1960's and refined throughout his career until reaching the extraordinary results of the paintings of the 80s/90s.

Author: Gaetano Pancaldi (Piumazzo di Castelfranco Emilia, 1922-2014).
The representation of nature and daily life were among the artist's favorite subjects, who was very active and well-known in the Modena area due to his activity as a poster designer for the Communist Party of Modena and the numerous exhibitions he held. A tireless painter, Pancaldi worked with unchanged passion until recent years. Biography available on the internet and on request.

Medium and painting surface: watercolor on paper painted with "Ice technique" that was invented by Pancaldi to obtain the ice effect in some part of the painting surface, this technique consists of literally freezing the fresh wet painting and subsequently working on it again. He used this technique starting from the early '60's and kept working on it for all his life until the extraordinary results of the 80's and 90's ice paintings.
