For sale is a very rare treat - a Meissen plate made in
about 1745 and decorated at about the same time by Johann Friedrich
Metzsch , a Hausmaler who owned a workshop in Bayreuth . The superb
quality of the painting suggests he himself painted this plate. Of all
the Hausmaler pieces his work seems to be the hardest to find and in my
searches I could only find one other plate. The rest was mostly lone
saucers and cups and saucers and rarely this nicest of designs. He
painted Meissen blanks but also Chinese porcelain at times. The design
in the center of the plate is some of the nicest they did with the black
scene in the center and the fancy and colorful shell and floral design
around the scene . The rim design is also typical of his work. This is
really a superb example of his work in the typical colors and style. The
plate in superb condition with some minor wear and a few spots where
the enamel has flaked - a common issue. It displays amazingly and is one
of those pieces that draws you in.The plate is 1 inch tall and 8.875
inches in diameter. It is marked with the under glaze blue crossed swords
mark under neath as shown as well as an impressed 22. 18th century Szenenteller Hausmalerei German Germany Szene
