For sale is a very rare figurine made by Ilmenau around
1780. These miner figurines were modeled by Johann Lorenz Rink (aka
Laurentius Rienck ) between 1780 and 1786. Most seem to have belonged to
a band which is also the case here with the gentleman playing a French
horn type instrument. These figures are very rare and the only other
ones I found were in different museums. The figure is superbly modeled
and from the early period of this makers. Left in the white to show off
all their skill and let the detail speak for itself. The figurine is in
great condition with some early firing flaws from the making common to
these pieces and a chip to the edge of the instrument as shown. It is
not marked underneath but a known model and there is no question as to
the maker or age. The piece is 7.125 inches tall, 4 inches wide and
2.125 inches deep. musician Thueringen Thuringia Germany 18th century
