Description:  The classic early history of the Crusades in a spectacular edition featuring all 100 of the Gustave Doré illustrations recreated from the rare original first edition.  Dore is considered one of the greatest illustrators of all times and volumes with his works always become very collectible.  Combine that with the extraordinary and ornate gilt design on cover and these are an exceptionally beautiful way to own this work.  The covers feature crusader and royal emblems rendered in gold tone and multicolor leather inlay.  The Plantagenet lions (Richard the Lionheart) on spine are a very regal touch.  If the rare and huge folio sized limited edition is too unmanageable for one's library or pocketbook; this set (though chunky) is closer to normal height and contains all the same illustrations.   9" x 7 1/2"

Condition:  Leather is bright with virtually no sign of any shelf wear.  Very little marr to gilt page ends.  This is a copy I removed the plastic for photographing so even any mark on the gilt page ends was there while it was still sealed.
