For sale is a very rare figurine made by Ilmenau around 1780. These miner figurines were modeled by Johann Lorenz Rink (aka Laurentius Rienck ) between 1780 and 1786. Most seem to have belonged to a band which is also the case here with the gentleman playing a French horn type instrument. These figures are very rare and the only other ones I found were in different museums. The figure is superbly modeled and from the early period of this makers. Left in the white to show off all their skill and let the detail speak for itself. The figurine is in great condition with some early firing flaws from the making common to these pieces and a chip to the edge of the instrument as shown. It is not marked underneath but a known model and there is no question as to the maker or age.
