For sale is a superb piece made in England in the early 19th century . It's a bit of an unknown and odd piece but I would say it is a bough pot of sorts possibly meant for multi funtions. The main body has four cups attached to the bottom which sort of match up with the small holes in the lid. I would say these are for cut flowers. The oval opening in the lid and the main body could be for a bulb or dried flowers and the long oval divot could be a pen rest though it is a bit short. I bought this piece as an inkwell but it makes no sense as the holes are too tiny and the center one too large and gilding too intact to have held something. Either way a superbly modeled piece with little columns to the corners and figural feet probably meant to be dolphin heads though they look more like those of a duck :) A nice top edge design as well. The piece is superbly hand painted with a light blue ground color and lots and lots of flowers all around as well as on top of the lid. Nice to still have the lid!! Gold trim in all the right places. The piece could have been made at Davenport but also a number of other English makers of this period. Hard to tell without a mark and I could only find one other unmarked one also unmarked and unattributed. The bulb pot is 3.75 inches tall, 5.5 inches wide and 4.625 inches deep. In great condition with just a touch of gold wear mainly around the edge of the lid and top edge of the main body but it displays perfectly. One of the "cups" of the inside has some damage to it as shown but nothing major and a stained hairline to the back side that is stable and does not touch an edge and is not very obvious. A really really lovely piece of porcelain!
