Antique/1865-80 Woman's White Cotton ROBE Hand-Embroidered Broiderie d'Anglese Fitted V-Yoke/ Long-Sleeves/Fitted Turnback  and 1/2'' Embroidered Buttoned Turnback Cuffs.
Part of my personal collection; I have had this 'nightrail' since the early 1960's and just stored it
Classic voluminous(hide everything I can change under it-type) high quality White Cotton Sheeting Hand-embroidered with White Cotton Floss directly onto the material(NOT pieced) with tiny flowers, 'eyelet', and Buttonhole Stitched Scalloped Edging. Hand-worked Drawnwork and Hand-embroidered 1/2'' diameter Cloth Buttons, not replaced/moved; 4 missing(3 on the yoke and 1 at the bottom). The deeply V-d and tightly fitted Yoke is fully Embroidered measuring 12'' long from the CF Neckline with a 3'' 'squared off' bottom edge ending in a button/buttonhole, and then continuing all around the Yoke at 1 3/4'' deep around to the Back where it widens to 3'' at the CB.
A 1 5/8'' wide bottom hem and CF Button Placket which are machine stitched so after 1850.  I believe that the whole body was pieced by hand and then finished by machine.
The SIDE SEAMS, however, are HAND-SEWN AND ROLLED into a miniscule hem of about 1/32'' or smaller. I can't get a good photo of that, unfortunately but when I stretch it out the stitches are slanted/angled like a whip-stitch and very tiny and tight.
More 1 1/2'' deep Embroidery traverses the front of the robe down to the hem. See photo details of both front and back of the handwork. All embroidery is handwork and worked directly into the material, not applied.
1/2'' diameter White Cotton-covered Flat Buttons are fully Embroidered and feature 6-pointed Drawnwork 'Stars' with NO shaft, are gathered to close along their center back ends and sewn directly onto the body.
Deep and tightly fitted V-Yoke, typical of the period, with tightly gathered and gusseted sleeves and body into it both front and back. The long full sleeves have heavily Embroidered and Scallop-edge turnback cuffs  on a sturdily stitched double wristband and with their original buttons.

Only one 'flaw' that was there where I bought it and has not been repaired: a 1/2'' long tear at the CB neckline. See photo detail.
NO rot, stains, unpleasant odors, holes, or tears other than noted above, and no wear in the fibers.
Measurements>>
Bust measured under the 2-PIECED GUSSET Sleeve 46''
Neck 15''
Shoulder to shoulder across the back but NOT counting the dropped arm 16''
Yoke front each side 15''  from center of the sleeve to CF so total is 30''
Yoke back from dropped cap to CB is 12 1/2'' so total is 25''
Sleeve 'armscye' is 14 3/4''..remember that is a DROPPED SLEEVE
Sleeve length not counting cuff nor dropped cap is 19''; adding the cap from the yoke makes it 24'' and adding the cuff  makes it 27''
Sleeve Underarm Gussets are 7 1/2'' long x 2'' wide each side  allowing for each of movement there, at least.  The Yoke isn't as uncomfortable as it would seem.. my opinion only of course.
Wrist is 6 1/2''
Cuffs are shaped into more Vs... from 2'' to 2 1/2'' at the center, plus the wristband is 3/4'' deep
Overall length 48'' CF neckline to hem  CB 53'' neckline to hem
WEARABLE as the material is sound and sturdy. Perfect for display, teaching, copying or study.
