AZURITE SUN ON KAOLINITE MATRIX 28 X 20 X 8 MM 7 G
This is a small specimen of Azurite Sun in Kaolinitic siltstone from the only place in the world, Malbunka Copper mine, Aranda country in Northern Territory. Azurite is a deep blue copper mineral produced by the oxidation weathering of copper ore deposits. Azurite suns form between layers of a clay mineral called Kaolinite, compressing and forcing the Azurite to grow radially, creating a "sun". Azurite suns are incredibly unique not just because of how they form but because they are only found in the Malbunka Copper Mine in Australia.
The specimen dimensions: 28 mm x 20 mm at widest points, and 8 mm thick at the thickest point. The "sun" itself measures 19 mm x 19 mm. The weight is 7 g. Images were taken indoors in natural light.
