Telecom Eireann first introduced phone cards into
the Republic of Ireland in the year 1988. The
brand name chosen for these cards was “Call Card”. Telecom Eireann, Ireland's
state-owned telecommunications company became privatized in 1999. Subsequently
the name of the company was changed to Eircom.

festival. The card has information in Irish at the back and front of the card.
The
text on the rear of the Callcard "An Teanga Bheo agus Telecom"
translates to "Living with language (Irish) and telecommunications".
