Publisher's green cloth hardcovers, in jacket illustrated by Roy Sanford, priced 18s, with Ian Fleming review on front flap. Discreet gift inscription, contents and page edges clean, used jacket has some chips and tears. Very good. Fleming's review for the Sunday Times did not appear on some earlier impressions. Wartime biography of Commander Edward Preston "Teddy" Young, DSO, DSC & Bar, who was the first RNVR officer to command a submarine, and a survivor of the sunken sub HMS Umpire. Prior to the war, Young was graphic designer for Penguin Books, drawing the publisher's famous logo and devising the iconic colour schemes for their book genres. After the war he returned to publishing and took up writing. His biography was reviewed upon publication by fellow RNVR Cdr Ian Fleming, who ran The Book Collector, to which Young contributed. This copy is from the comprehensive archive assembled by Jon Gilbert (pencil signature within). His comprehensive guide to the works of Ian Fleming (2012) won the 16th Breslauer Prize for bibliography.
