Pick up a bargain. These hop plants often cost up to £20 from hop specialists and garden centres including postage for a small rhizome, not a larger year old crown like this one.

Do not be tempted to buy cheap hop seeds if you want the hops for brewing. You won't know what you might get, female, male (no good for brewing) or just about anything else, if they take at all!

All of my hops are grown organically in my own compost with no use of chemical fertilisers or pesticides.

These hop roots have been grown from UK Certified hop plants originally purchased from an Accredited UK seller.

This is a female bramling Cross hop plant/crown, also known as a hop rhyzome. It is a good quality, healthy  hop plant which I grew over last year from April in a planter and is now ready for replanting in the garden. It has been over-wintered outside to make it strong and hardy. It is a female plant which was taken as a cutting from my own hop plants so ideal for harvesting hops from for beer brewing or hop pillows.

March to May are ideal months for planting new hop plants.

Bramling Cross  hops are typically in the 5.0 to 6.5 alpha acid range and, when used as late hopping for flavour, exhibit a distinctly blackcurrantish flavour.

Bramling Cross hops are used in many micro-brewery ales  and in Bellhaven 80/-, Boddington's Bitter, Federation Special Ale, Felinfoel Double Dragon and many others.

If you do not wish to use these plants for beer making, they make excellent climbing plants to grow up trellises or walls and fences to cover them up if unsightly. They grow around 25 foot long with several shoots and have large leaves and nice greenish cone shaped flowers.

Many people also use hop bines/vines for decorating their homes, pubs or gardens. You can hang them down from hooks or nails on the wall or ceiling or fashion them into garlands or  other shapes to hang on walls or ceilings.

Other people use hop flowers in a small draw-string bag or sock inside their pillow case at night to aid good sleep.

I will supply planting, harvesting and hop picking/drying instructions via the Ebay Messaging Service to the plant winner.

Just to clarify, hop plants are perennials and can give strong growth for over 20 years.

Note: having previously sold over 80 of these large hop plants/hop crowns on Ebay in the past 6 years (they are much larger and stronger than a simple hop rhizome), I can now say that they come out of the planters from two to 4 times larger and heavier than the usual hop plants sold by garden centres and hop farms. In my experience you have no more than a 50% chance of a small rhizome succeeding after planting. Mine are equivalent to a second year hop plant and these larger, strong, well hardened/wintered-off  crowns are almost certain not to fail. They generally weigh between 100 and 250 grams each and have crowns from around 15 to 25 mm in diameter. They are commonly from 10 inches to 18 inches (25 X 45cm) long and usually have one large or several smaller roots on them the thickness of a man's little finger, but just how large any given plant will be is unknown at the time of sale, until I remove it from the planter to post that day.

I lift my hop roots on the day they will be posted, after ensuring that they are well hydrated, and enclose them in plastic bags and then in bubble-wrap lined jiffy bags to ensure no damage occurs during postage and that they wil stay moist for several days in transit. This removes the need for them to be sent potted. It may be necessary to trim off any extraneous shoots or roots before postage but this will not be detrimental to the root.

The main photo I have provided of an actual plant/root grown by myself is of a 170G hop plant, which is the average size of my plants and the second root is another root I grew and sold a year ago. The other two pictures are nothing to do with the sale but just to give you an idea of what the mature hops look like close-up and from a distance. The distance photo is one of all four of my mature hops a week prior to being picked last year.

I also have a few Northdown and First Gold hop plants surplus to requirements most years and these will be listed on Ebay separately.

Plants can be posted or picked up personally. Payment by Paypal or cash on pick up. Please pay within 48 hours of the auction ending or, if you are unable to do so, message me to explain when you will be available to pay.

Due to the perishable nature of hop plants and frequent RM delivery delays outside of mainland England, Wales and Scottland, I can only supply to mainland UK addresses, e.g. not to Northern Ireland, the Highlands and Islands of Scotland and other islands surrounding the UK mainland. plus Channel Islands. I will not deliver to Click and Collect addresses, only to confirmed home addresses
