Loet Vanderveen (1921 - 2015): Born in Rotterdam, Holland. His home was near the zoo where he spent much of his time growing his love of animals would later become the subject of most of his sculptures. He made his way to New York where he studied under Fong Chow at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and learned the art of glazes and patinas. He spent the end of his life in Big Sur, California, and continued his work in bronze animal figures excelling in both the patinas as well as the naturalistic poses of the animals. A true original Vanderveen is included in the permanent collection of numerous museums including the Oakland Museum of Art, Crocker art Museum, and the Cincinnati Art Museum.
